B ernice E ggink, 96, of Pipestone died on Thursday, November 24, 2014 at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. Services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Chandler Funeral Home in Chandler.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Chandler Memorial Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held after the committal service at the Chandler Reformed Church.

Bernice Eggink was born on January 11, 1918 in Chandler, MN to Albertus and Josie Vrymoet Eggink.  The family moved to the Lake Wilson area when she was 5 years old where she attended rural schools and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1935.  She had teachers training from Tracy Normal School and graduated from Mankato State College.  She also took advanced courses at Greely Colorado and the University of Minnesota.  She started teaching in the rural schools in Murray County and later in Round Lake, Madelia, Worthington and Mound Public schools.  She was active in the organizations of League of Women’s Voters, Professional and Business Women, National Teachers Association and Minnesota Teachers Association.  She was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church where she was active in Sunday School and the Missionary Society.  After retirement, she moved to Pipestone, MN where she was a member of the Pipestone Presbyterian Church and active in the Hospital Auxiliary.  In March of 2012 Bernice became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN.

On Monday, November 24, 2014, at the age of 96, Bernice died at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN.  She is survived by one sister, Josephine Eggink; seven nephews and nieces, Derald Karssen, William Karssen, Alden Karssen, Janice Vander Poel, Gaylene Chapman, Albert Vander Lugt and Peter Vander Lugt;  16 great nieces and nephews and many great, great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Joe, Anthony and Lenderd, two sisters, Catherine Vander Lugt and Jeanetta Karssen, and one nephew Roland Karssen.
