D avid J . S ankey, 88, Chandler, died Friday, November 28, 2014 at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN. Visitation services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Chandler Funeral Home from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church at 11:00 AM, with burial prior to the service at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery.
D avid J ohn S ankey was born on August 17, 1926, to Dave and Jennie (Van Eck) Sankey near Chandler, MN, on the same farm he lived his whole life. He attended school at District #94 through 8 th grade. When he was 18 years old, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and stationed in San Diego, CA on a Destroyer. He served until the end of WWII. After the service, David attended school in Chicago, IL and became a licensed electrician. He worked for Zwart Electric in Edgerton. Dave was baptized and made Confession of Faith at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church in Chandler, MN. He was very faithful in attending church and reading his Bible. Dave enjoyed farming all his life, first with his father, then his brother, Bill and finally, his nephew, Mark, in 1999. Dave and his brother Bill raised turkeys from the early 50's to the early 90's. He loved and enjoyed all his nieces and nephews, and enjoyed their visits to the farm.
In June of this year David became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN, where he died on Friday, November 28, 2014.
He is survived by two sisters, Wilhemina Aardema, Artesia, CA., Cornel (“Doc”) Aardema, Wendell ID; two brothers, Harris (Geri) Sankey, Chandler; Harvey (Sandy) Sankey, Elkton, SD; and sister-in-law Christa Sankey, Chandler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Johanna (Anthony) Kooiman, Dorothy (Wayne) Nelson, and Lavina (James) Kemp; his brother, Bill Sankey, and brother-in-law, Charles Aardema.
