Franklin Edward Post

August 16, 1933 — September 22, 2021

Chandler, MN

Franklin Post, 88, of Chandler, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Hospice House of Murray County in Slayton.

Franklin Edward Post was born on August 16, 1933. He passed away due to failing health in Slayton, MN at Hospice on September 22, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Frank was the 6th of 10 children born to James and Jennie (Schelhaas) Post in Section 34 Chanarambie Township, Murray County Minnesota. There he remained to raise a family and dairy farm his whole life, except when he left to serve his country in the Army in Germany during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He was known for joking that he got homesick at the bottom of the hill a mile from home, but he meant it.
Frank graduated the 8th grade from District 94 Country School in Moulton Township located just west of the farm. As a young adult, Frank enjoyed roller skating at local roller rinks and was called “Curly” by his friends. He met his future wife Arlene Littau through Arlene’s best friend and roommate Jennet (Van Reulder) Mollema from Chandler. Arlene was a teacher from Carter, SD teaching in Sioux Falls at the time. They were married on August 24, 1963 and were blessed with four children.
Frank was known for being a man of faith and having an impeccable work ethic. He had a great sense of humor (“Frank-isms”), smile and a deep love for his bride. He passed on a high regard for agriculture, military and country to his children, grandchildren and anyone else who would listen! He took great pride in planting trees and building good straight fence.
Frank served as an elder at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN and was a member of the Chandler Legion Post serving in various roles. He was on the Farm Credit Association Board, 4-H Leader for Chandler Hilltoppers (with Arlene) and DHIA Board Member as secretary for 30 years. He also was a member of the American Legion for just over 58 years. His hobbies included farming, horses, reading, and listening to country music. Frank and Arlene enjoyed hosting the neighborhood picnic for 30 years where many memories were made.
He is survived by his wife Arlene of 58 years; his children, Ben (Connie), Bill (Merri), Brent (Niki), and Polly (Dean) Vander Wal; grandchildren, Wyatt, Sarah (Jacob) Bierstedt, Jake (Megan), Kayla, Carter (Courtney) Vander Wal, Jordyn, Lindsey Vander Wal, Aubrey, Brynlee and Wade; great-grandchildren Aiden Bierstedt and Addilynn Post; sisters, Edith Walhof and Cathy (Lou) Kuhl; brother, Jim (Susan) Post, along with many nieces, nephews and the neighborhood family that meant so much to him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Bernice Manderscheid, Nelson Post, Ada DeKoekkoek, Walt Post, Geneva Toering and Evelyn Lubben.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Chandler Funeral Home from 4:30-8:00.
