Harold L Lockwood

Harold L. Lockwood, age 90 of Chandler, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Slayton.  Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Chandler Reformed Church in Chandler.  Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Friday at the Chandler Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Burial will be at the Garden of Memories in Worthington, MN.

Harold Leslie Lockwood was born on November 19, 1923 to Leslie and Pearl (Houser) Lockwood in Primghar, IA.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith and graduated from Primghar High School.  Harold was drafted into the United States Army on November 21, 1944 and served his country during WWII.  Harold received a check for thirty-five dollars a month for his service to his country.  He received the Eame Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged from service on December 30, 1945.  While in the Army, Harold was also a Golden Glove Boxer.

On August 28, 1947, Harold was united in marriage to June De Vries in Firth, Nebraska.  They made their home in Brewster, Minnesota for a few years and eventually settled on a farm near Chandler where they remained until entering the Golden Living Center in 2011.  Harold loved farming and continued to farm as long as he could.  He was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church where he served his church as an elder and a deacon.  He was also a member of the Chandler American Legion.

Harold loved to farm, enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, listening to his boys sing, spending time with his family and most importantly, his faith in Jesus Christ.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2014 Harold passed away peacefully at the Golden Living Center in Slayton, MN at the age of 90 years old.

Grateful for having shared in Harold’s life is his wife June of 66 years; two children, Rodney (Chico) Lockwood of Palatine, IL, and Randy (Janet) Lockwood of Mound, MN; daughters-in-law, Becky Lockwood, Green Dale, WI, and Linda Lockwood, Balaton; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, sons, Royce and Roscoe, sister, Dorothy Hietbrink and brother-in-law, Dale Hietbrink preceded him in death.  Blessed be his memory.
