Rose M. Brouwer age 85 of Hadley, MN died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, MN. Services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Iona Presbyterian Church in Iona, MN. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Chandler Funeral Chapel and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Badger Lake Cemetery, rural Iona, with a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the burial. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.
Rose Mae Brouwer was born March 19, 1929 to Henry and Tilla (Speiker) Kruger in Magnolia, MN, Rock County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. As a young girl she attended country school near her family’s home.
On August 6, 1948 Rose married Marvin Brouwer in Chandler, MN, where they made their home. They then moved to Hadley, MN, where she resided after her husband’s death until 2013. She was a homemaker to her family and will forever be remembered by them as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Over the years Rose worked part-time as a cook at the Lake Shetek Lutheran Bible Camp.
She was a member of the Iona Presbyterian Church and active in the church women’s groups and also, active in the Iona Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, especially African Violets, needle work, puzzles and Bingo.
In 2013 Rose became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton, MN, and recently a patient of the Murray County Medical Center, where she died surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the age of 85.
Rose is survived by her children, three daughters, Jeanine (Terry) Lloyd of North Mankato, MN, Anita Brouwer of Slayton, MN and Darla Van Meveren of Hartford, SD; two sons, Verlyn Brouwer (special friend, Eileen Bernstein) of Lake Wilson, MN and John Brouwer of Hadley, MN; seven grandchildren, Dina (Chris) Landphair, Barbara Betts, Kyle (Shana) Brouwer, Kyra (Shaun) Mills, Karl Brouwer, Tony Van Meveren, and Travis Van Meveren; seven great grandchildren, Madelyn and Ayden Betts, Hunter and Ty Landphair, Desirea and Kalei Brouwer, and Alex Brouwer; nieces, nephews and friends.
Her husband, Marvin, son, Loren, granddaughter, Victoria, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters, preceded her in death.
